We are thrilled to bring your attention to an important matter at hand – our Environmental Impact Review and the corresponding actions we have or are taking to reduce our carbon footprint. As we strive to provide you with the best experience in our leisure centres, it is equally important that we do our part in preserving the environment for future generations.

The first step towards minimising our environmental impact was conducting a comprehensive review of our operations. The review encompassed various aspects, including energy consumption, waste management, and resource usage. Through this thorough assessment, we have identified areas where improvements can be made, enabling us to make a positive difference in our communities.

With the findings in hand, we are excited to announce a series of actionable steps that will undoubtedly have a tangible impact on our environment. Below are some of these initiatives:

1. Energy Efficiency: We are committed to reducing our energy consumption by implementing cutting-edge technology and adopting energy-efficient practices throughout our facilities. We have been busy upgrading to LED lighting systems including PIR sensors, installing a building management system, as well as installing solar panels at our Midsomer Norton site as we work towards minimising our carbon footprint without compromising on your comfort.

2. Waste Reduction: Recognising the importance of responsible waste management, we are implementing measures to minimise waste generation. Last year alone, we used 500,000 non-recyclable wipes in our gyms, which all end up in landfill and take 100 years to degrade!

These will be replaced with hand gel dispensers by the end of November 2023 in our drive to reduce waste across our sites. We would ask that members use hand gel on entering the gym and between machine use. Paper towels will still be available, but we encourage members to bring their own sweat towels.

We have also invested in NFC access control technology, eliminating the need to issue rubber wristbands. We know this will be a welcomed upgrade, particularly for those members who may have had to purchase a replacement band or two!

You will now be able to use your mobile phone to gain access! If you haven’t already, you will need to connect to our Public Wi-Fi by selecting Dragonfly Leisure. Registration is easy and will keep you logged in for 90 days! You will need to have the Dragonfly app downloaded to your phone and be logged in. Please note that access via your membership will be locked to your personal phone.  You will need to surrender your existing wristband to register your phone. Any change or phone upgrades will also need to be registered. This can be done at reception. Only one phone can be registered per member/customer.

We have recently installed new secure lockers in our gyms and outside our studios to allow you to store your phone and other valuables safely.

Wristbands can still be used for those who prefer this option, however, when our current stock of wristbands is used, we will not be offering replacement bands.

3. Water Conservation: Water is a precious resource, and we believe in its responsible usage. Through the implementation of water-efficient fixtures and educating our staff and members on water-saving practices, we intend to significantly reduce water consumption within our premises.

As you can see, we are fully committed to not only providing top-notch fitness facilities but also fostering a sustainable environment for all. We trust you will fully support us in our sustainable initiatives, even if they do take a bit of getting used to. Together, we have the power to create a lasting positive impact on our environment.

Stay tuned for more updates on our progress and additional initiatives. Let’s take small steps today for a greener tomorrow!
